Chelsea have been handed a huge blow in their pursuit of Croatian youngster and Dynamo Zagreb play maker Ante Coric after the player confirmed Chelsea’s interest but ruled out the possibility of a move to Stamford Bridge, this is according reports.
Coric became a transfer target for Chelsea and Real Madrid when he broke into the first team of the Croatian outfit. He became the youngest goal scorer in Europa League history at the age of 17 years and 157 days when he scored against Astra Giurgiu.
The skilful midfielder is regarded one of the brightest prospect in the world and Chelsea were understood to be intensely keen on him. He has featured 17 times for Zagreb this term but most seven of them have been from the bench. He was reportedly unhappy over that and it was thought that he will leave the Maksimir Stadium this winter.
However, Coric has dismissed a possible move, stating that he is happy.
He told 24sata: “I am very happy that Chelsea and Real Madrid want me but I know I wouldn’t play there. They would send me out on loan, perhaps to a lesser club or a lesser league.
“So I know staying is the best decision.”
Coric, 18, has been dubbed as the new Messi and it would not take long before clubs unleash their transfer war chest for him. Chelsea may not even sustain their interest to the point where the player will make the move.
