Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dismissed the possibility of a Chelsea deal for England international and winger Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, this is according to the Express.
Chamberlain, 22, has been on the radar of Chelsea since last summer. Before the deal for Petr Cech was brokered, Chelsea were understood to be interested in a swap deal for the player but it did not happen at that time.
According to the Sun, Chelsea have reignited their interest in the player as they see him as the ideal replacement for Real Madrid’s bound Eden Hazard.
However, Wenger has now spurn the possibility of a deal for the player.
When quizzed whether the speculation about Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea was rubbish, Wenger replied: “Yes.”
Chamberlain has been rated highly by Arsenal Wenger but to say the least, his form for the club means he is not in the class of player Chelsea should be scrambling for.
He has failed to break into the first team of Arsenal despite the chances meted on him. Last season, Chamberlain scored just one goal in 23 appearances. Although, he has been injured this season, he has largely being a fringe player and is yet to score.
Chelsea should continue rooting for players like Texeira and Calleri against Chamberlain that has been inconsistent.
